Florida

We have returned safely and the photos are posted from our trip to sunny Florida! We had lots of fun, despite a recurrence of Maeve’s ear infection and a nasty delay that left us stranded in the PBI airport on our last afternoon. As you can see from the pictures, we spent lots of time chalking the driveway and enjoying the nearby beaches and parks. We found time to celebrate Grandma’s birthday (Tiki Bar times two!) and had a nice visit from the Schumms. It was quite windy, but we wouldn’t trade the chance to shed our winter clothes for a few days for anything. This week has been nothing but rainy/snowy and cold since we returned, so we are pretty jealous that Grandma is still on the beach! We are regrouping with a quiet weekend and cannot believe it is already March…

Happy Valentine’s Day

We had such a fun visit with Nanna and Grandad this week. Mommy still was not feeling great, but they took some fun video and pictures at her classes and outings. I have posted the great movies that Grandad made from the library storytime and Little Gym in the 2009 Video Gallery! Maeve loves watching herself on film…

Today we celebrated Valentine’s Day with a party with our playgroup friends and although I forgot my camera battery, there is some great evidence of our adorable cuties. Please click here  and see the video in the 2009 Video Gallery -photos courtesy of Cara and Megan. I put another video from our weekend’s V Day fun in the Video Gallery too.

We are looking forward to our trip to Florida next week and celebrating Grandma’s birthday! Bring on the beach…

We laughed, we cried…

Maeve watched her first full-length movie tonight with Mommy and Daddy. It was the Polar Express, which was a Christmas present from Nanna and Grandad (complete with her very own jingle bell). She snuggled up on the couch with us after dinner and was glued throughout the whole thing. She loves trains, so we weren’t surprised… Some of her comments included “Here comes the choo choo” and “Wheeee,” but we are afraid that one part will stick with her more than others.

Maeve got very distressed when the train was skidding on the ice, exclaiming “It’s very slippery!” and “Oh no!” She started crying and yelling when the ice began to break and the train nearly fell into the water. We just held her and told her to watch how fast they were going…luckily they were fine and she recovered to watch the rest of the movie. Before bed though, she rehashed the scene 3 or 4 times, likely checking with us to ensure that the positive outcome was the same. We didn’t realize it would be so frightening for her, but she was so happy at the end talking about the tree being “so pretty” and that “he found the bell.” I choose to *believe* that a good time was had by all…

A few not-so-good firsts

We’ve been busy with lots of fun recently, but there are some downs to share before the ups. Maeve finally launched herself out of her crib by jumping. It scared her (and me, when I heard the thud!) more than anything, but she luckily was fine and she hasn’t done it again. I am hooked back on the video monitor as a result though, but it’s been funny to watch her turning the light on and off (mostly sleeping with it on now during her nap), taking off her jammies and throwing her friends out of the crib.

Maeve also experienced her first ear infection last week. She had her first fever too before the holidays, but this wasn’t connected. Maeve was more clingy and whiny than usual, but she’s two so that alone wasn’t a clue. It wasn’t until she tilted her head to the side and lost it in the grocery store that I knew I should take her in. Luckily, the medicine kicked in right away and she was well on her way to recovery before the weekend.

On a lighter note, she loves to wear a Dora bandaid on her finger even though the boo-boo is long gone. Maeve sings all the time and her favorite songs are “Happy Birthday” and “No more monkeys jumping on the bed.” She also has a new one about snowmen from music class that I’m predicting will last well into the spring! She even made a couple of requests of the teacher in music class today – won’t say her name, but isn’t shy about asking for what she wants… She is still obsessed with stickers, and I’m thinking I will put this talent to good use to help her make Valentines for her friends!

We went to the Great Wolf Lodge indoor waterpark in the Wisconsin Dells with Karen, Mike and Sierra this weekend. The girls had such a blast and even had their first sleepover, sharing the same room on Saturday night. They were brave on the slides and enjoyed splashing around in the wave pool and the sprinklers. Maeve also is really taking to her new Little Gym class – doing a great job following all the directions and trying out all the new equipment! She even walked on the high balance beam without holding my hand.

Nanna and Grandad are coming to see her in action next week, and we’re lucky enough to have a couple of visits with Lucy this week too. We’re looking forward to a warm up this weekend – it might be in the 40s!
