21 months old in the summer

We are fresh off a whirlwind trip to MI for my best friend’s wedding sequel (her first celebration was in Mexico City) and we had a nice visit with Nanna and Grandad while we were there. April’s parties were so much fun and Maeve was fast friends with April’s niece Kate, as you can see from the wedding pictures. We had a great morning today at the park because we got to see so many of Maeve’s friends – Gwen, Olivia, Theo and Mia all were there! We also made a new friend named Lily who will be joining our music class with Ms. Tisa. Classes start on Thursday so we are looking forward to that! We also are preparing for a black tie affair on Friday night, a visit from Grandma this weekend, and a mini-vacation to Marquette next week where we hope to meet up with Nanna and Grandad on their boat.

Maeve continues to become her own independent person. She is expressing her opinions about what she would like to do, what books she would like to read before sleep (Napping House is the current fav and Goodnight Moon is out!), and she is talking about what she likes and dislikes. Her full sentence this weekend was “I like Cheerios” while she was eating them. We are so impressed with all she can communicate!

There are new pictures in the gallery – the June monthly was taken at Redamaks!

Happy Father’s Day!

To all the dads out there – the ones no longer with us, the ones who are our friends and family, and the dads-to-be – we wish you a very happy father’s day! Maeve’s Daddy and Grandad are the important dads in my and my daugther’s lives and are so special to us! We honor them today especially, but they are loved every day of the year…

Summer officially begins

We are home again after a fun trip to Michigan (many pictures in the gallery) and the weather has switched from stormy to sunny! Maeve also has made a switch – from Mama and Dada to saying Mommy and Daddy. She is speaking in more phrases and copying our behavior – our favorite is how she says “Heh-woh” when she pretends to answer the phone. This is followed by much babble, and then a quick “ok bye” at the end.

There were many big storms this weekend, and Maeve learned about thunder with Daddy on Saturday. Then overnight Saturday night she woke up so I went to comfort her. She normally doesn’t talk when I come in to soothe her during the night, but Maeve said “it’s raining there” so I whispered, “yes it’s still raining outside.” She then followed it up with “everything’s all wet!” I couldn’t keep myself from cracking up – she really made this connection in the middle of the night? Wow! Then a clap of thunder happened so she asked “what’s that?” I explained quietly about thunder again and then put her back in bed. She is adorable and wicked smart obviously!

Another advance today (possible TMI warning) as Maeve sat on the potty while she did her poops after lunch – although she was fully clothed and diapered, she seemed to know exactly what the potty was for. She politely shoved me out of the bathroom and shut the door but I peeked and she was sitting on the potty most of the time she was in there. It was a great first introduction…I am so proud of her!

We are back at home this week and watched as the tree in our neighbors’ front lawn was chopped down today (cool series of pictures in the gallery!). We are looking forward to visiting the Foundation tomorrow (riding the bus!), having playdates on Thursday, a trip to Millennium Park for Wiggleworms on Friday and then dancing to Justin Roberts on Saturday! We have a busy week ahead…hope yours is fun too.

Happy Birthday Aunt Megan!

We are enjoying a fun trip to Michigan this week and hoping that the Red Wings will win the Stanley Cup tomorrow night! I have uploaded recent pictures, including Maeve’s new favorite pouty face that she’s been practicing (at least for as long as she can keep from cracking up) and her first bike (thanks Nanna and Grandad!). Hope your week is going well too!
