Summer officially begins

We are home again after a fun trip to Michigan (many pictures in the gallery) and the weather has switched from stormy to sunny! Maeve also has made a switch – from Mama and Dada to saying Mommy and Daddy. She is speaking in more phrases and copying our behavior – our favorite is how she says “Heh-woh” when she pretends to answer the phone. This is followed by much babble, and then a quick “ok bye” at the end.

There were many big storms this weekend, and Maeve learned about thunder with Daddy on Saturday. Then overnight Saturday night she woke up so I went to comfort her. She normally doesn’t talk when I come in to soothe her during the night, but Maeve said “it’s raining there” so I whispered, “yes it’s still raining outside.” She then followed it up with “everything’s all wet!” I couldn’t keep myself from cracking up – she really made this connection in the middle of the night? Wow! Then a clap of thunder happened so she asked “what’s that?” I explained quietly about thunder again and then put her back in bed. She is adorable and wicked smart obviously!

Another advance today (possible TMI warning) as Maeve sat on the potty while she did her poops after lunch – although she was fully clothed and diapered, she seemed to know exactly what the potty was for. She politely shoved me out of the bathroom and shut the door but I peeked and she was sitting on the potty most of the time she was in there. It was a great first introduction…I am so proud of her!

We are back at home this week and watched as the tree in our neighbors’ front lawn was chopped down today (cool series of pictures in the gallery!). We are looking forward to visiting the Foundation tomorrow (riding the bus!), having playdates on Thursday, a trip to Millennium Park for Wiggleworms on Friday and then dancing to Justin Roberts on Saturday! We have a busy week ahead…hope yours is fun too.
