Happy Memorial Day!

We had a wonderful trip to the Nation’s capital this weekend, enjoying fun times with both friends and family! We toured around DC on the Metro, celebrated my cousin’s wedding and had a nice visit with the Willis Family. They were even nice enough to let Maeve have a sleep over with her friends Rachel and Fiona, which was probably the highlight of her trip! We saw many sites, including the Capitol, the American History Museum, the National Zoo and we picnicked on the Mall. Seeing the pandas and the elephants was lots of fun since we can’t see those animals in Chicago, and I loved exploring old town Alexandria. My cousin Brad’s wedding at Mt. Vernon was a really fun party and a special reunion for my family. We did a lot of dancing and celebrating together – there aren’t many pictures because we were way too busy enjoying ourselves!

The one bummer from the trip was that Maeve got her finger caught in a door and is now sporting a new addition to her wardrobe. She certainly was upset when it happened, but we didn’t think it was broken so I waited and took her to our own doctor today. She was such a brave girl and didn’t even cry! The splint is a precaution and hopefully will help her thumb heal quickly.

Even though we love living in Chicago, we are rooting for the Wings to lock up the Western Conference Championship this week and play for the Cup! GO WINGS!!!

Funny word alert: I love when Maeve talks about the computer – she calls it a “palloot!”

Nassau video

I finally edited some footage together of Maeve in the Bahamas and the link is in the 2009 Video Gallery! The quality is a bit grainy because I had to reduce the size to upload it, but you’ll get the general idea of what our water baby was able to learn while we were there… Enjoy!

Preschool, here we come…

The exciting news of the day is that Maeve has been accepted into preschool for the Fall. It will be one morning per week (Wednesdays) at Black Bear Academy – http://www.blackbearacademy.com/. We love the small class sizes and approach to learning that Black Bear offers, and we think Maeve will really benefit from having an opportunity to play and learn with other kids. She might even have a friend in her class, as we have requested the same classroom as our neighbor Evan!

We just finished a fun week with Nanna and Grandad here, and a wonderful family celebration for Lucy’s baptism and Mother’s Day over the weekend. Team FAFA was back in force for the Breast Cancer Walk on Sunday and now we are gearing up for our 1st garage sale on Saturday. Next week it’s off to Washington DC for cousin Brad’s wedding! Stay tuned…
