Happy Halloween

Maeve was an adorable snail this weekend at her playgroup and friends’ Halloween parties!

She is fighting a cold now, but she was a trooper at her check-up Monday night. She got her flu booster shot and we found out that she gained a whole pound! She’s up to 18 lbs.  4 oz.  Maeve started blowing kisses this week too and has a new tooth (her 7th; a molar) coming in. We’re looking forward to our trip to visit Grandnana and Aunt Nancy next week!

Unfortunately, we also got some very sad news this week when we learned that our beloved Aunt Julie (my dad’s youngest sister) passed away. She was one of my very early examples of a great mom and she offered me my first opportunities to pretend to be one to her kids – I have such wonderful memories of visiting with her when her babies were little and of her trusting me to take good care of my young cousins. I also have the happy times with Aunt Julie at our family holiday gatherings and, most recently, at my own and my cousins’ weddings to cherish as well. She had the most beautiful smile and an infectious laugh.

I miss her very much.

Maeve spent a fun weekend with Nanna and Grandad in Kalamazoo, while Mommy and Daddy attended their 10-year college reunion. She enjoyed swimming in the hotel pool and dining with them at Bob Evans. She also toured the campus and had lunch with us in the old cafeteria. Maeve continues to practice walking and is learning to squat down to lower herself to sitting instead of plopping down. She also is fond of copying us – saying “ahhh” after drinking from her cup and shaking her head “no” among other things. We had a fun playdate with our friends Georgia and Evan this morning, and we hope to go to a pumpkin patch tomorrow. There are some new photos up and we’ll have more after the weekend too!

Maeve is walking!

For the past few days, Maeve has attempted a few steps towards us while leaning forward and sort of falling into our arms – close, but we could not count this as officially walking…until yesterday! Maeve took more than 10 steps between us walking towards Daddy. We are so proud of her!!! We are not as thrilled about the climbing up the stairs, but it is another accomplishment none-the-less. Here is the video as proof of these major milestones:

In other exciting news, congratulations are in order as Auntie Beth and Uncle Matt became engaged on Columbus Day!

Beth & Matt

October already?

Maeve had a very special weekend with both Grandma and Nanna here, as well as Aunts Heather and Beth, and Beth’s boyfriend Matt. She continued to celebrate her birthday with rides in her new wagon and visits from a few friends. We all had a nice outing to Garfield Park Conservatory, and trips to the park and the garden store. Her dad got her a huge butterfly balloon and the lucky girl got lots of new books, clothes and fun toys.

The new tricks include Maeve putting her hand over her head to sign “airplane” when she hears the word or one flying overhead, and standing up tall alone without holding on! She and Zlatka went to their music class together today and Maeve will have a big outing with Mommy on Friday to downtown Chicago. We will also enjoy a couple of playdates this weekend, attend a friend’s birthday party and welcome Daddy home from his work trip this week.
