24 month check-up

Last night was Maeve’s 2-year-old check-up and she was such a trooper! She was very anxious when she realized where we were and begged to go home, but managed to hold it together while we went through our list of questions with Jennifer. Everything checked out very well and Maeve only had to get one shot since the flu shot is now a mist! She was so polite through her tears, saying “good-bye” and “thanks” to both Jennifer and the nurse with the shot – trying to get them to leave quicker I think! – and even said “see you soon” to them…it was adorable.

Two years old

Maeve had a fantastic weekend of birthday celebrations! Her Grandma, Auntie Beth, Nanna and Grandad all came in for the festivities. We had a small celebration with Grandma on Friday including chocolate cake, and a big party with Maeve’s friends and vanilla cupcakes on Saturday! The weather was beautiful, so we played in the backyard, and many of the guests watched the Cubs clinch the NL Central Division championship too. We got to talk to G.G. and Aunt Nancy and our former nanny Zlatka on the phone which were special treats for Maeve.

I have posted some pictures in the gallery and hope to have more to share soon. There are also some great ones here courtesy of my friend Cara. Maeve loved opening her gifts on Sunday morning and we are so thankful for the new toys, art supplies, clothes, books and puzzles she received! We gave each child a small colorful pot to decorate with stickers and two crocus bulbs to plant – Aunt Heather and my mom get credit for the brilliance behind this idea. It was a big hit!

This week Maeve has her classes, her two-year-old check-up, and we are taking a special trip to a pumpkin patch on Friday with our playgroup!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAEVE!

The birthday girl

Today Maeve is two years old… While it’s hard to believe, the passage of time is evidenced in her accomplishments over the past year. She has worked so hard:
– improving her communication skills (she speaks very clearly, recognizes her alphabet and numbers to 10, and now can tell us exactly where she wants us to go – “this way mommy; sit right here daddy”)
– perfecting her coordination (she can run, jump, throw, catch and kick a ball now!)
– asserting her independence (she can put on her own shoes, brush her teeth and use a spoon to eat her soup!)

This year she got the first stamps in her passport – traveling to visit her GG and Aunt Nancy in the Bahamas and to Mexico City for April & Miguel’s wedding. Maeve has many friends in Chicago too and loves our playdates all over town.

Who knows what is in store for our girl this year, but we are so proud of her and hope she retains her wild enthusiasm in all she does. We are so thankful for our family and friends who have helped us survive these first two years of parenthood and continue to provide all of us the love and guidance we need! I will post pictures from the weekend’s celebrations soon.

Aunt Heather’s visit

We had such a fun week with Aunt Heather, Nanna and Grandad here to visit. We enjoyed beautiful weather, spent a lot of time in our garden (where the visiting experts really made a world of difference, and Maeve helped by watering and picking tomatoes too), and attended Maeve’s soccer and music classes. We also took a ride on the train, went to the park, and even went out to dinner! Mommy had some me-time to visit friends downtown and get her nails done this week too. A good time was had by all!

I put some highlights up from the visit, although I will be sure to add Grandad’s pictures when I get them. I also posted a few photos of our yard with all of its beautiful improvements…if it ever stops raining here, I’ll take some daylight pictures!

Rainy Day play

This week is all about the birthday – OH BOY!

Happy Anniversary Nanna & Grandad!

Today is Nanna and Grandad’s 41st wedding anniversary! We are looking forward to celebrating with them next week, although Maeve is still working on saying Happy Anniversary. She keeps saying Happy Birthday…

We started Maeve’s soccer class this morning – she did an excellent job kicking the ball, but wasn’t as enthusiastic about the running drills. She enjoyed the bubbles and shaking the parachute – and she even scored a goal! The funniest thing is that it’s in a gymnasium with basketball hoops, so she tried several times to throw the soccer ball up to make a basket. Maybe we picked the wrong sport? The best part is the new uniform though, as seen below!
